Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte To Address “Enduring US Foreign Policy Priorities” at Aspen Institute
Aspen, CO, July 24, 2008 –– The 2008 Aspen Institute McCloskey Speaker Series will feature a Conversation with Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and Aspen Institute CEO Walter Isaacson. The event will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, August 6, 2008 at the Doerr-Hosier Center on the Institute’s Aspen Meadows campus in Aspen, CO. The series is made possible by a gift from the McCloskey Family Charitable Foundation. Tickets for the McCloskey Speaker Series are $10 each and are now on sale through Aspen Show Tickets at the Wheeler Opera House. As a full-capacity audience is expected for this program, early ticket purchasing is encouraged. Doors will open 45 minutes prior to the start of the lecture, and unclaimed tickets will be on sale at the door.
John Negroponte is the Deputy Secretary of State, the Department of State’s second ranking official. As Deputy Secretary of State, he assists Secretary Condoleezza Rice in the conduct of US foreign policy and functions as the chief operating officer of the Department. He coordinates and supervises US Government activities overseas, represents the Department’s position before Congress, and manages key foreign policy issues on the Secretary’s behalf.
Prior to his current assignment, Ambassador Negroponte served as the first Director of National Intelligence (DNI). From June 2004 to April 2005, he had served as US Ambassador to Iraq. From September 2001, until his appointment to Iraq, Ambassador Negroponte served as the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations. From 1997 to 2001, Ambassador Negroponte was employed in the private sector as Executive Vice President for Global Markets of The McGraw-Hill Companies in New York.
