Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to Speak at Aspen Institute

Aspen, CO, July 15, 2008 –– The next installment of the 2008 Aspen Institute McCloskey Speaker Series will feature a conversation with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Secretary Albright will discuss her newest book, Memo to the President Elect: How We Can Restore America’s Reputation and Leadership (HarperCollins) with President and CEO of the Aspen Institute Walter Isaacson.

The event will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Doerr-Hosier Center on the Institute’s Aspen Meadows campus in Aspen, CO. The series is made possible by a gift from the McCloskey Family Charitable Foundation. Tickets for the McCloskey Speaker Series will be $10 each and will go on sale starting July 16 through Aspen Show Tickets at the Wheeler Opera House. As a full-capacity audience is expected for this program, early ticket purchasing is encouraged. Doors will open 45 minutes prior to the start of the lecture. 

Madeleine K. Albright was the 64th Secretary of State of the United States. In 1997, she was named the first female Secretary of State and became, at that time, the highest ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government. As Secretary of State, Dr. Albright reinforced America’s alliances, advocated democracy and human rights, and promoted American trade and business, labor, and environmental standards abroad. From 1993 to 1997, Dr. Albright served as the US Permanent Representative to the UN and as a member of the President’s Cabinet.

Dr. Albright currently serves as Principal of The Albright Group LLC and Chair and Principal of Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets. She chairs both the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and the Pew Global Attitudes Project and serves as president of the Truman Scholarship Foundation. Dr. Albright co-chairs the UNDP’s Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor, serves on the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Board of Trustees for the Aspen Institute and the Board of Directors of the Center for a New American Security.
