Washington, DC, April 29, 2021–The Aspen Institute announced today that Lorelle Atkinson has been appointed Vice President of Communications and Marketing at the Aspen Institute. As the leader of the communications department, she will steer the future development and enhancement of the Institute’s overall strategic communications and oversee a team of more than 20 employees providing an in-house communications service in support of the organization’s dozens of programs and initiatives.

Atkinson has led the communications team as Interim Vice President since July 2020, with the appointment now becoming permanent. She had previously served as the Aspen Institute’s Director of Strategic Communications. Prior to joining the Institute, she was Acting Vice President at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a federal government agency focused on global economic growth. In that role, she led a 20-person communications team and built the agency’s capacities for digital engagement and storytelling, internal communications, and international communications. She also served on the agency’s investment management committee, which oversaw the annual approval of $1 billion of investments around the world.

“Lorelle has already done an outstanding job as our Interim Vice President of Communications, and I am delighted that she now steps permanently into this key leadership position,” said Dan Porterfield, President and CEO of the Aspen Institute. “Much of our work hinges on effective and thoughtful communications, and Lorelle’s demonstrated skills at collaboration, management, and strategy are exactly the qualities required as she leads the Institute’s communications efforts and staff into an exciting new chapter.”

“The Aspen Institute is an organization committed to addressing the most pressing challenges of our time,” said Lorelle Atkinson. “I’m honored to continue leading such a talented and passionate communications team, and working across the Institute to broaden its reach and amplify its impact in new and innovative ways.”
