Washington, DC — Young people and parents from across the country will hold a forum on Friday, April 6 at 9:00 AM, to release statements sharing what they want for students and what they expect from their schools. The Youth and Family Calls to Action are an important piece in the Aspen Institute National Commision on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development’s ongoing effort to explore how best to connect social, emotional, and academic learning in classrooms across the country.
The Calls to Action, developed by the National Commission’s Youth Commission and Parent Advisory Panel, articulate the urgent need for schools and communities to support students’ comprehensive development. These documents are a crucial part of the Commission’s effort to draw from diverse perspectives as it outlines a roadmap to making social, emotional, and academic development part of the fabric of every school.
This event will provide an opportunity to hear directly from youth and parents about how they think schools and communities can enhance learning and prepare students for their futures. How can educators help young people feel safe? How must schools evolve to keep up with shifting technological and cultural norms? And how can parents and schools work together to support and educate the whole child?
