Aparna Jayashankar is a Summer Associate with the Aspen Institute Community Strategies Group. She is a rising fourth-year at the University of Chicago majoring in Public Policy and Economics, with a minor in Inequality, Social Problems, and Change. Prior to joining Aspen, Aparna worked at the National Center for Law and Economic Justice (NCLEJ) where she analyzed ticketing data to support a lawsuit fighting discriminatory policing practices. She also interviewed worker’s centers in New York, documenting the obstacles that people have faced when attempting to access unemployment benefits during the pandemic. Last summer, she worked with educators to develop modules and learning materials to teach students about the City of Stockton’s guaranteed income demonstration, SEED. In her spare time, she enjoys participating in Model United Nations, experimenting with new recipes, and making chai with her family.
