Eddie Gonzalez (Washington, DC) is the founder of Fulcrum Scientific, a firm to brand and promote scientists as subject matter experts and promote that expertise to society. The effort is in development. For the last 22 years, Eddie Gonzalez has helped a broad range of nonprofit organizations and professionals unlock the potential of human capital for the benefit of society. Whether developing middle school curriculum for World Wildlife Fund or training wastewater managers on Environmental Protection Agency regulations with the Water Environment Federation or cultivating conservation leaders with the National Audubon Society, he knows the value of human-centered solutions. Eddie Gonzalez began formulating Fulcrum Scientific during a presentation at the International Leadership Association’s annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia in November 2016 where he presented on the role of science leaders leading policy leaders. Before founding Fulcrum Scientific, Eddie Gonzalez served as Senior Project Director of Professional Development, Evaluation & Fellowship Impact for the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Science & Technology Policy Fellowships program (STPF). In that role, he directed a yearlong professional development program, including an intensive, two-week orientation to government; served as an advisor on the fellows’ mentoring, diversity, and inclusion efforts; and guided a network of fellows-organized and fellows-led affinity groups addressing societal topics such as biodiversity, science diplomacy, national security, global health, big data, and coastal & marine issues. Eddie’s past experiences have involved managing education programs, developing curricula and programming, leading fellowships, mentoring programs and alumni networks, strategic planning, fundraising, event management, and outreach. His leadership roles have ranged from board member and department director to partner liaison and contracts and grants administrator. He is a regular reviewer for the EPA’s Office of Environmental Education grant program and NOAA’s Ocean Literacy grant program. Eddie holds a bachelor’s degree in geology and biology from Brown University and a master’s degree in nonprofit management from Regis University. He is a recent board member of the Public Lands Alliance; a PADI certified divemaster and founder of Scuba Diplomacy, a dive club that fosters diplomacy through diving; and owner of a boutique spice company called Apothecary Spices.
