James Schine Crown is President of Henry Crown and Company, a privately-owned company which invests in public and private securities, real estate and operating companies.

James Schine Crown is President of Henry Crown and Company, a privately-owned company which invests in public and private securities, real estate and operating companies. He serves as lead director of General Dynamics Corporation and is a director of JPMorgan Chase. He is a trustee of The Aspen Institute, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Orchestral Association, the University of Chicago and the University of Chicago Medical Center. Mr. Crown is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Jim Crown was born in Chicago in 1953, the son of Lester and Renée (Schine) Crown. Mr. Crown earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1976 from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. He received his law degree in 1980 from Stanford Law School, where he was projects editor of the Stanford Law Review and a member of the Stanford Public Interest Law Foundation.

Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Crown joined Salomon Brothers Inc, in New York City, as an associate. He became a vice president of the Capital Markets Service Group in January 1983. In April 1985 he returned to Chicago to join his family’s investment firm.

Mr. Crown has been married to the former Paula Hannaway since 1985.  Paula Crown is a Principal of Henry Crown and Company. Prior to joining Henry Crown and Company, she was also a Vice President at Salomon Brothers Inc in New York. She earned her A.B. degree from Duke University magna cum laude in 1980 and in 2012 completed her Master’s Degree in painting and drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Ms. Crown serves on the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Modern Art, Duke University, Conservation International and Latin School of Chicago. She serves on the National Council of the Aspen Music Festival and School, the Board of Advisors of the Nasher Museum of Art, and the Women’s Board of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. She is also a member of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, the Committee on the Arts of the Aspen Institute, a co-founder of the Clean Energy Trust and co-chairs the Executive and Campaign Committees of the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Memorial Foundation. Paula and Jim Crown have four children.
