Lorena Marez is the Chief of Military Law at the Military Intelligence Readiness Command (MIRC), Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The MIRC is home to over 8,000 United States Army Reserve Soldiers (USAR) in 36 locations across the globe. In this position, CPT Marez provides fulltime counsel and legal support to MIRC Commanders, subordinate commanders, and their staff on all aspects of Military Law and related administrative actions against USAR Soldiers. With over four years of active duty time, CPT Marez also served as an attorney of record and Defense Council on the high-profile case of United States vs. SGT Robert B. Bergdahl. Prior to her time with the USAR, she was Legislative Counsel for United States Senator Michael Bennett, Legislative Attorney for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and a Policy Fellow for Law Students for Reproductive Justice. Before attending law school CPT Marez worked as an affordable housing Community Organizer with The Good Old Lower East Side in New York City. A Colorado native, she graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BA in Sociology and a JD from Northeastern University School of Law in 2011.
