Melissa Mellor develops and executes communications strategies to promote the National Commission on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development and generates greater awareness about the importance of supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development. Prior to Aspen, Mellor was manager of government relations outreach at ASCD where she led the association’s advocacy communications and promoted whole child education policies. Previously, she served as ASCD’s communications specialist spearheading social media efforts and conducting media outreach. Mellor also held positions at the Council of Chief State School Officers where she managed high school redesign efforts and at Editorial Projects in Education, Inc. where she contributed to Education Week’s research reports. Mellor earned her master’s degree in education from Wake Forest University and her master’s in public relations and corporate communications from Georgetown University.
