Miguel Fernandez, originally from Harlem, NYC, is Composition and Literature faculty and Faculty Liaison for Student Veterans at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. He has received several teaching awards and fellowships, including the 2012 Gilbert Chamber of Commerce Community College Educator of the Year, was a recipient of the 2015 Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation Recognition Award for his work with student veterans, and a 2019-2020 Maricopa Institute of Learning Research Fellow, focused on teaching credibility literacy to freshman community college students. He graduated from Valley Leadership Institute in 2017. Miguel is also the incoming misinformation/disinformation editor at Opensourceresearch.net. His personal projects include his recently earned his part 107 FAA UAS/Drone pilot license through CGCC’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems classes, and is beginning a sabbatical from the Maricopa Community College District to focus on how to teach second order thinking/credibility literacy to business and workforce bound students. He deeply believes the divide between academia and the workforce must end.
