Seminars Program and Experience Manager, Executive Leadership Seminars

Mumbi is the Seminars Program and Experience Manager for the Executive Leadership Seminars program. She joined the Aspen Institute in the fall of 2022.

Mumbi received her undergraduate degree in Sociology from Furman University and completed a dual degree Masters program in Public Health and Social Work from the University of Georgia. She also completed a certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from the University of Georgia. Mumbi is a licensed master social worker in the state of Virginia, holding prior licensure in Georgia. She provided clinical services for children, adolescents, and families before finding herself in higher education programming.

Mumbi’s experience in graduate higher education began as a graduate assistant at the University of Georgia Graduate School in 2012. After graduating, she transitioned to full-time staff member at the Graduate School and later the School of Social Work, where she developed and coordinated graduate school recruitment, managed graduate school retention programs, coordinated graduate student career preparation, and managed leadership initiatives for social work faculty and students. She also led continuing education programming for social work practitioners across the state of Georgia. In 2020, Mumbi transitioned to the Council on Social Work Education located in Alexandria, Virginia, the accrediting and member association for social work programs in North America. While at the Council, she led diverse task force groups in the development  of curricular guides and educational resources for social work educators as well as directed member engagement efforts. Mumbi’s experience in higher education also included extensive experience with in-person and virtual conference management.

Mumbi is proud of her Angolan and Kenyan heritage and was raised in Athens, Georgia. She enjoys college football, memes, good coffee, traveling, and performing in musicals.
