William Powers is a former Washington Post staff writer and the author of Hamlet’s BlackBerry: Building a Good Life in the Digital Age. Widely praised for its insights on the digital future, the book grew out of research he did as a fellow at Harvard University. A New York Times bestseller, it has been translated into many languages. In 2014, he joined the MIT Media Lab as a research scientist and spent the next five years on projects aiming to ensure that artificial intelligence reflects human values and enables social progress. He recently left MIT to launch a startup based on one of those projects.
