Frederick Johnson

Summer Intern, Leadership Team, Energy and Environment Program

Frederick is a dedicated advocate for environmental equity and sustainability, with a passion for creating inclusive and resilient communities. With a background in Urban Planning and a specialization in Environmental Law, Frederick has consistently demonstrated a commitment to addressing environmental challenges through a lens of social justice. Frederick has been actively involved in projects that address the intersection of environmental justice and sustainability, such as the Crenshaw Community Collaborative (C3), where they played a key role in researching environmental vulnerabilities and galvanizing economic development strategies through cooperatives and anti-displacement measures.

In their work at the NAACP Environmental & Climate Justice and as an Environmental Justice Consultant at the Flint Community Lab, Mr. Johnson provided technical assistance and conducted legal research to support impacted communities seeking redressability from historic polluters. It is their belief that all communities, especially those who are experiencing generational levels of pollution, must be prioritized to achieve environmental equity.  We all deserve a right to clean air, water, and soil, by any means necessary. As an intern for the EEP of the Aspen Institute it is Frederick’s goal to learn how Justice 40 is implemented within grass root movements with a specific emphasis on resilience and water infrastructure in communities faced by lead contaminated water.
