2020 Firestone Fellow Takeria Blunt

Takeria Blunt is a third year doctoral student in the Digital Media program at Georgia Institute of Technology. As a graduate researcher in the Expressive Machinery Lab (EML), Takeria’s work explores a variety of educational technologies based in computer science education (CSE) efforts. Her work focuses on analyzing and developing educational tools to broaden participation in the field of computing
Takeria is interested in co-creating CSE experiences, software, and courses for computing departments at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), given their unique atmosphere and challenges. Her work centers the intersectional experiences of undergraduate students in computing.
Prior to pursuing a graduate degree, Takeria graduated Magna Cum Laude from Spelman College with a B.S. in Computer Science. Her undergraduate research focused on culturally relevant computing, using data science for social good, and understanding online Black social movements.
When she is not working on her current research, Takeria runs an educational blog for women of color called The Brown Book.
Takeria will work on Aspen Digital’s Tech X Talent Project.
