AYLF Covid 19 Resources
Fellows resoundingly told us they wanted to keep going, especially during a time of crisis. AYLF has gone fully online, using exciting tech tools and pedagogy to deliver an impactful experience and critical support for our young leaders.
AYLF provided laptops and Internet access to Fellows who would not otherwise have been able to continue their college classes once their school moved fully online.
100% of active Fellows indicated that AYLF was a safe space they needed during this time of crisis more than ever before. AYLF immediately shifted to online delivery and continued providing monthly sessions, opportunity ecosystem resources, and support to Fellows.
Fellows who needed immediate access to funds were provided access to stimulus funds. AYLF also guaranteed 30 paid internships per site – opportunities that would not otherwise exist in those communities.
AYLF provided financial support for schoolbook purchases, essential supplies, housing displacement, and continued college enrollment.
Early data indicated statistically alarming drops in resilience among youth since the start of the pandemic. Initiatives like Youth Lead Now! can mitigate this impact by providing interaction with influencers on a national scale who can help shape mindsets and boost resilience.
Resources such as online tutoring on academic subjects or skill development and access to national speakers through the Youth Lead Now! series are available for Fellows’ siblings and family members.
The alarming drop in resilience among young people caused by the pandemic inspired the creation of Youth Lead Now!, a virtual townhall series that brings expert, national speakers into the living rooms of youth and families locally. These events provide touchpoints that enable youth to stay resilient during these unprecedented times and to remain motivated to engage in change-making. Through this collaborative initiative, The Aspen Young Leaders Fellowship and The Aspen Challenge are leveraging the power of the Aspen Institute’s network in service of local communities to provide messages of hope and inspiration when it is needed the most.
