2022 Fall Workshop Series
This past fall, the Aspen Institute Artist-Endowed Foundations Initiative | AEFI was pleased to continue its project Increasing the AEF Community’s DEAI Capacity to Host BIPOC Internships and Fellowships with a four-part, online workshop series focused on professional practice around Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion and Hosting BIPOC Internship/Fellowships.
This series continued the discussions and advances the work that was generated by the spring 2022 workshop series, responding to issues identified by AEF leaders during interviews and surveys as well as the AEF community meeting in July. Like this earlier series, it is designed to help AEF leaders and staff build their organizations’ DEAI capacity, develop a shared understanding of effective practice in hosting BIPOC internships and fellowships, and engage with colleagues in exchanging lessons learned around this important work.

Consortium Concept Review
The workshop series will be preceded by an online review session to discuss the concept for a three-year demonstration project by which members of an AEF consortium collaborate to advance the next generation of BIPOC leaders in the visual arts.

Reflect on what DEAI means to your particular AEF, its charitable purposes and programs; consider which aspects of the organization should be prioritized in advancing its DEAI practice; and explore what strategies and processes would help bring alignment among staff members and among board members around these goals.

Building Board and Staff Diversity
Zero in on the critical issues of building and sustaining diversity among AEF boards and staff, considering equitable strategies to identify, recruit, and retain board members and staff who will bring crucial perspectives and lived experiences to the processes of governing AEFs and conducting their programs in service to an increasingly diverse public.

Planning an Equitable Internship/Fellowship
