NEW VIEWS: Premiere Documentaries – Presented with Aspen Film

Tickets $16 available at the Wheeler Opera House, www.aspenshowtickets.com, or (970) 920-5770.

A renaissance of documentary filmmaking is underway in the United States. These films are having a major impact on American public life and politics. Presenting a series of critically acclaimed new documentaries on topics from politics and environment to the visual arts and music, each screening will be followed by a discussion with the director or special guest.

Delicately constructed and poignantly elegiac, The Woodmans is an intimate portrait of a family whose guiding ethos was making art – all the time. Family patriarch George is a professor and painter. Betty is a ceramicist who earned her own show at The Metropolitan Museum. Their son Charlie is a video artist. But the breakout talent was daughter Francesca, one of the late 20th century’s most recognized photographers, whose work is collected by major museums and acknowledged as an inspiration for contemporary fashion photography. Her gift emerged in a highly developed way at a very young age only to end tragically early. Candid interviews, journal entries, performance art videos, and Francesca’s photographs bring her to life.

Guest: Director C. Scott Willis
