Update: This post has been updated to include a transcript featuring the nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security and former Pentagon official Jeh Johnson on counterterrorism, national security, and the rule of law.

President Barack Obama is expected to announce his nomination of the Pentagon’s former top attorney Jeh Johnson to become US Secretary of Homeland Security. He would succeed Janet Napolitano.

Johnson spoke at the 2013 Aspen Security Forum in July, where he discusses his support of government surveillance programs.

Johnson also talked about national security policy in an atmosphere of leaks, such as the classifed documents disseminated by Edward J. Snowden, the Army Pvt. now known as Chelsea Manning, and others.
