On April 25, 2012, Lisa Mensah, Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Initiative on Financial Security (Aspen IFS), participated in Latinos for a Secure Retirement’s 2012 Latino Retirement Security Summit. The day-long summit featured four sessions focused on increasing defined benefit (DB) saving, increasing defined contribution (DC) saving, using technology to improve retirement security outcomes, and the challenges of making savings last in retirement.

Afterwards, Mensah offered closing remarks along with Alma Morales Riojas, President and CEO of MANA – A National Latina Organization; Gabriela Lemus, Senior Advisor and Director of the Office of Public Engagement at the U.S. Department of Labor; and Representative Raul Grijalva (D-AZ). They discussed that while retirement challenges are daunting, they are not insurmountable. Retirement policies such as the Automatic IRA that Representative Neal spoke about earlier in the day can result in more Americans saving for secure retirements.
