Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 1933-2020

September 18, 2020  • The Aspen Institute

Tonight, the nation mourns the loss of a truly great American. Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life work and 27-year tenure on the Supreme Court have made this world a better place and will inspire all of us for generations to come. May she rest in peace.

The second woman to serve on this country’s highest court, Justice Ginsburg was a champion of justice and steadfast advocate for civil and human rights. She consistently formed bonds of friendship and collaborated with justices from across the ideological spectrum.

We were honored to have Justice Ginsburg grace the stages of the Aspen Institute on many occasions. She helped us to understand the most profound democratic values that we try to live as an Institution. Her humor, intellect, and generosity of spirit were one of a kind. She will be profoundly missed.
