Vartan Gregorian on Personal Excellence

Today Vartan Gregorian, the president of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, will speak about philanthropy as part of The Foundation Presidents’ Series. The Aspen Institute awarded Gregorian the Henry Crown Leadership Award in 2010. That year, Gregorian spoke about the mutually inclusive relationship between democracy and excellence, and the importance of being both educated and cultured. Above all, he encourages everyone to strive for excellence, saying, “People cannot claim [the accomplishments] of their ancestors. They themselves have to be deserving.”
