Aspen Ministers Forum Session XXIII – December 2018

The Aspen Ministers Forum (AMF), in partnership with the OCP Group, gathered for its 23rd session in Marrakesh, Morocco. This meeting brought together twenty-three former foreign ministers and twenty renowned experts from around the world.

This AMF session revolved around the topic of “Africa Rising: Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities.” Our group explored political, economic, and security trends across the continent, focusing on how countries are grappling with transnational challenges including migration, climate change, food security, growing populations and violent extremism. We also examined the role of external powers, including China, in the next phase of Africa’s development. With the conclusion of our discussions, we are once again working to produce concrete recommendations for today’s policymakers.

One outcome of the Marrakesh AMF was an op-ed published in Jeune Afrique by Secretary Albright and Minister Benaissa. The op-ed, entitled “A New Age of African Cooperation,” is published here, and an English translation is available here on the Aspen Institute’s website.
