Edlis Neeson Great Decisions Series 2019: Session 5
In this eight-week series, participants gather to discuss key foreign policy issues facing the world today. Lead by volunteer moderators, participants will engage in moderated discussions with their fellow citizens. This year’s topics will include Refugees and Global Migration, The Middle East: Regional Disorder, Nuclear Negotiations: Back to the Future, The Rise of Populism in Europe, Decoding U.S.-China Trade, Cyber Conflict and Geopolitics, The United States and Mexico: Partnership Tested, and State of the State Department and Diplomacy.
This week’s topic is Refugees and Global Migration. Today, no countries have open borders. Every state in today’s global system has its own laws and policies about who is permitted to cross its borders, and how they will do so. Who determines whether someone is a refugee or a migrant? How have different countries, including the United States, reacted to migration? How effective are the international laws, policies and organizations that have evolved to assist and protect refugees and migrants?
Fee: $225, includes all sessions, readings and light refreshments. Scholarships available. Books will be available for shipment or pickup the first week of January.
All sessions will be held at the Aspen Meadows Campus, 1000 N Third St, Aspen, CO 81611, unless noted otherwise.
