Intelligence Squared US Debate: The US Has No Dog In The Fight In Syria

When it comes to Syria, does the US have a ‘dog in the fight’?There are no good options and many reasons not to intervene in Syria: Assad’s powerful allies, the public’s aversion to another war, and wariness over an opposition army that includes Islamic extremists. However, holding back means ignoring a growing humanitarian crisis, where the number dead has topped 100,000. These issues will be explored in an August 9th live-streamed debate put on by Intelligence Squared and the Aspen Strategy Group on the Institute’s Meadows Campus in Aspen, CO.

Author & ABC News Correspondent John Donvan will moderate a debate between Chertoff Group Principal & Former Deputy Homeland Security Advisor Richard Falkenrath and former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Policy and Plans Graham Allison in support of the US staying out of Syria versus former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs and Aspen Strategy Group Director R. Nicholas Burns and former British Ambassador to the United States Sir Nigel Sheinwald representing those who believe the US should intervene.
