Peacebuilding through Education in a Globalizing World

Featuring Ruth Turner, Executive Director, Tony Blair Faith Foundation

As globalization pushes us ever closer together, faith is becoming increasingly relevant across societies. The growing power of the internet has allowed some to perpetuate intolerance and misunderstanding, using religious and cultural differences to create division. However, the technological advancement seen over the past decades has also provided opportunities to break down stereotypes and misconceptions that fuel conflict and replace them with understanding and cooperation. To harness the power of technology for good, it is vital that we equip the next generation with the knowledge and skills to engage in respectful dialogue and interact peacefully with people from other faith, ideological and cultural backgrounds.

Please join Partners for a New Beginning and the Tony Blair Faith Foundation (TBFF) as we discuss the effective design and implementation of peacebuilding education initiatives. Leaders from the private, public and non-profit spheres will be able to share insights and brainstorm ways of working collaboratively to maximize impact and expand reach to include traditionally underprivileged and misrepresented parts of society. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn more about TBFF’s model program, Face to Faith, from the foundation’s Executive Director, Ruth Turner.

The Aspen Institute serves as the Secretariat for Partners for a New Beginning (PNB). A joint project with the State Department and leading business and civil society leaders, PNB is an alliance to foster public-private partnerships committed to broadening and deepening engagement between the United States and local communities to help advance President Obama’s vision for a New Beginning based on mutual interests and respect.
