#TimeToCare Paid Leave Documentary Screening

The pandemic heightened awareness that we all need time to care – and that most of us can’t afford it. Ky Dickens, the award-winning director of Zero Weeks, was inspired to make the #TimeToCare documentary about paid leave when she discovered that families were using TikTok to share stories about facing financial duress, emotional turmoil and guilt due to a lack of paid leave.

This event will include a sneak peek screening of the 20 min documentary film followed by a discussion moderated by Marjorie Sims – Managing Director of Ascend – in conversation with two mothers and paid leave activists: Tameka Henry: a mother to two daughters sharing her experience when she caught COVID-19 and lost a month of income; and Bethany Feauteux: a mother who had to return to work three weeks after the birth of her child via c-section in order to keep a roof over her family’s head.

As legislators advance the Build Back Better Act, we will share how policymakers and practitioners can make paid leave universal in policy and practice so that it’s more inclusive of workers with low incomes.
