U.S.-India Dialogue, December 2015

The Aspen Strategy Group and Ananta Aspen Center convened the 21st session of the U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue in Washington, DC from December 11-14th, 2015. This meeting followed the COP21 climate conference in Paris where the relationship between the U.S. and India helped foster an historic accord. This year’s U.S. Delegation brought together leading policy experts, academics, journalists, and former diplomats – four of whom served as U.S. ambassadors to India. The high-level Indian delegation included former military officials and diplomats, parliamentarians, and other experts. Over the course of two days, delegates discussed a range of issues including Modi’s economic reform agenda and the challenges of the U.S.-India trade relationship. Outside of roundtable discussions, the Indian delegation met with both the U.S. ambassador to India and India’s ambassador to the U.S., high level officials from the Department of Energy and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and the United States Congress. The dialogue ended with renewed commitment to bringing India and the U.S. closer, especially in the areas of defense and trade.
