US-India Strategic Dialogue 2017

The Aspen Strategy Group (ASG) and the Ananta Aspen Centre jointly held the 22nd iteration of the US-India Strategic Dialogue in Washington, DC on October 13-14, 2017.  As this was the first session to take place during the Trump administration, and both delegations were eager to address the new opportunities and challenges for the US-India relationship. The group focused their series of discussions around themes pertain to China’s One Belt One Road policy; Afghanistan and Pakistan; defense cooperation; and trade.  The group heard from prominent Republicans and Democrats that offered their insights into the current state of and path ahead for both major political major political parties in the US. A sitting member of the Lok Sabha provided the delegations with an insightful overview of Indian domestic policy and the goals of the Modi Administration.

The Indian delegation also met with senior US Government Officials, the House co-chairs of the India caucus, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.  The group agreed there is an even more pressing need to continue this work, and that there continue to be many areas in which enhanced US-India cooperation promises real benefits for both countries.  The American delegation looks forward to returning to Delhi in 2018.
