Miami Beach, FL, April 28, 2022 – On May 9-10, TODAY weather and feature anchor Al Roker will appear at Aspen Ideas: Climate and broadcast for TODAY Climate, live from Miami Beach. The inaugural Aspen Ideas: Climate is a new event taking place May 9-12, bringing together exciting innovators and leaders together with the public to engage with local and global climate solutions with the potential to reshape our world. More than 180 speakers from across policymaking, science, business, technology, art, education, journalism, and more will attend the inaugural event.

On the opening night on May 9, Al Roker will give a “spark talk” on his passion for the topic of climate and the importance of addressing climate change. On the morning of May 10, he will interview technologist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Eric Schmidt, who served as Google’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairman from 2001 to 2011, on the role of technology in solving the climate crisis.

TODAY has always covered weather and climate issues, but specifically launched TODAY Climate last September, led by Al Roker, to expand coverage and take a deeper dive into the changes, the extremes, the strategies and solutions created by climate. TODAY Climate features a wide variety of stories across all TODAY platforms – the show, TODAY.com and TODAY All Day, the streaming network.

Aspen Ideas: Climate is co-organized by the Aspen Institute and the City of Miami Beach. Programming will take place in the New World Center and the Miami Beach Convention Center, as well as receptions across the city, art activations, ancillary events, field trips, tours throughout, including those with free general admission to the public. In addition, Aspen Ideas: Climate will “wallcast” evening programming onto the New World Center’s facade beginning at 8pm for free public viewing.
