THE ASPEN IDEAS FESTIVAL RELEASES PUBLIC EVENT TICKETS

Washington, DC, June 25, 2010 –– Single ticket sales for the Aspen Ideas Festival’s public events begin June 28 through Aspen Show Tickets at the Wheeler Opera House, in person, online at www.aspenshowtickets.com, or by calling 970-920-5770. Although full festival passes are sold out, a number of sessions – from 3D film screenings to a comedy night to an afternoon of conversation in the Benedict Music Tent – are open to the entire community, starting at just $20.

“This year’s Aspen Ideas Festival will bring new faces and important ideas and issues to the fore,” said Kitty Boone, vice president of public programs at the Aspen Institute and Aspen Ideas Festival director. “By providing ticket opportunities to citizens and visitors to the Roaring Fork Valley, we hope to engage an even broader audience in the sharing and disseminating of ideas and information.  We hope that people across the community will participate in something, whether it is our free showing of Shrek Forever After in our new Paepcke Auditorium (now outfitted with 3D), the Mini Makers Faire at the Base of Aspen Mountain throughout the day on July 10, or a talk at Belly Up, Hotel Jerome, Limelight Hotel, or St. Regis throughout the week.”

July 5

•   Shrek Forever After (3D), DreamWorks Animation SKG’s latest hit,
    inaugurates Paepcke Auditorium’s 3D capacity.

July 6

•   Is Social Media Transforming Journalism? featuring Fortune’s David Kirkpatrick,
    The Atlantic’s James Bennet, Vivian Schiller, head of NPR, Huffington Post’s Arianna
    Huffington and media mogul Strauss Zelnick, and moderated by Charlie Firestone.
    Belly Up, 7:30 pm (Tickets are $20)

•   Journey into the Third Dimension: Presentation and Discussion with
    DreamWorks Animation, SKG Producers
featuring John Batter and Jim Mainard.

July 7

•   Waiting for Superman: A Film – Following a handful of promising kids, Oscar Award-winner Davis Guggenheim takes a profound look at public education.
    Speakers include Bill Gates, Eric Adler, Davis Guggenheim, Geoffrey Canada, and
    Leslie Chilcott.

July 8

•   An Afternoon of Conversation engages big thinkers and doers in serious discussion
    about their work and the future. Speakers include Bill Gates with Walter Isaacson,
    Nicholas Kristof, Eric Holder with CBS’s Bob Schieffer, Geoffrey Canada and Roland
    Fryer on race and school achievement, and Melody Barnes with EJ Dionne.
    The Benedict Music Tent, 2:00pm (Tickets are $75)

•   Jazz Night at the Festival featuring the Helen Sung Trio in performance and
    conversation with remarks by Dana Gioia.

July 9

•  Game On: What Happens When Pressure is Put On Play featuring Tom Farrey of
    ESPN.
    Limelight Lodge, 7:45 am (Tickets are $35)

•    Walk in My Shoes: Students from New Orleans and Haiti Rebuild Lives featuring youth who will share their experiences, discuss their stories, and steal your hearts
      St. Regis Ballroom, 8:30 pm (Tickets are $20)

•  Restrepo: A Film featuring producer Sebastian Junger about the deployment of a
    platoon of US soldiers in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley.

July 10

•  Countdown to Zero: Film Screening and Discussion featuring Valerie Plame Wilson,
    Dianne Weyermann, Richard Burt, General Jack Sheehan, and moderated by Bruce
    Blair.

•  Comedy Night: The News Has No Clothes featuring Janeane Garofalo and Sam    Seder.

From July 5 – July 11 in Aspen, Colorado, more than 250 leaders from the fields of arts, science, culture, technology, religion, philosophy, business, economics, and politics — drawn from across the country and from around the world — will speak about “exploring ideas, deepening dialogue, and inspiring action.” Contributing their provocative perspectives, these presenters will engage the festival audience of nearly 2,000, as well as those following the festival online around the world, in a deep and inquisitive public discourse on the most important and exciting ideas and issues facing the world today.
