The 2021 convening will be held virtually and will explore the theme of “Collective Leadership: What does it take in a polarized world?”

Washington, DC, July 21, 2021 – The Aspen Institute is pleased to announce the 2021 Resnick Aspen Action Forum – a global gathering bringing together over 350 participants, including Aspen Global Leadership Network Fellows, partners, and youth will take place virtually July 21 through July 25, 2021. The theme of this year’s Action Forum is “Collective Leadership: What Does It Take in a Polarized World?” There will be meaningful opportunities to listen to and engage in captivating conversations around the root causes of polarization, how leaders can build societal trust, and what is required of us to collectively sustain long term impact.

The Action Forum provides an inspiring and purposeful space for some of the world’s most innovative, values-driven leaders to learn from one another and to expand their impact by hearing diverse perspectives and experiences, fostering productive dialogue around challenging topics, and collaborating to find inclusive solutions.

The five-day program – a mixture of public, live streamed programming, classic Aspen text-based dialogues adapted for the virtual environment, and collaborative, problem solving workshops led by community members – is designed to lay the groundwork for addressing critical social, economic, and moral leadership challenges in a time of deep uncertainty.

“We are excited to welcome a diverse gathering of Aspen Global Leadership Network Fellows, amid a moment of immense uncertainty and challenges worldwide,” said David Langstaff, Executive Vice President of the Leadership Division at the Aspen Institute. “From the global pandemic to reckonings around racial justice and rising tensions worldwide, leaders of all kinds have been tested in every capacity. The resilience to meet this moment collectively with purpose, trust, and a spirit of collaboration is what drives the community of Aspen Global Leadership Network Fellows.”

This year, the Resnick Aspen Action Forum plenary discussions include productive conversations on Why We Are So Polarized, Leading Through the Pandemic of Disinformation, How We Can Build Trust, Exploring Your Social Ecosystem, and Collective Leadership: What is Required of Us?

Resnick Aspen Action Forum speakers include: Eric Liu, Director of the Citizenship & American Identity Program, The Aspen Institute; Rima Maktabi, Bureau Chief in London, Al Arabiya; Yasmin Green, Director of Research and Development, Jigsaw, Alphabet; Marla Blow, President & Chief Operating Officer, Skoll Foundation; Ashley Bell, Partner, Public Policy & Finance, Dentons; Ana Maria Vallarino, Executive Director, #TodoPanama; Deepa Iyer, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Solidarity, Building Movement Project; Adria Goodson, Director of the Ford Global Fellowship, Ford Foundation; Cheryl Dorsey, President, Echoing Green; Manoj Kumar, CEO of the Naandi Foundation, and more.

The Youth Action Forum, running concurrently with the Resnick Aspen Action Forum, engages young people between 10 – 18 from 20 countries with multi-generational conversations that are facilitated through seminars, plenaries, and collaborative projects with program partner Videos for Change. This partnership provides opportunities to activate and amplify the voices of these young leaders through a workshop that guides them through making short videos on a social issue they care most about. The virtual learning experience is deeply immersive and offers these leaders the ability to share their powerful messages.
