Dr. Christine Niven is the director of the Adult Education and Family Literacy programs at Mesa Unified School District. These programs provide GED, English as a second language and workforce preparation classes to adults in Maricopa County. Christine believes education leads to opportunity and empowerment for adults and families, thereby creating a positive impact on their communities. Christine has been working in adult education for 30 years as a teacher, trainer, and program administrator. Throughout her career, her goals have been to build partnerships and collaboration, reduce duplication of services, and streamline connections between education and the workforce to increase access for all adults. Prior to moving to Arizona, she lived in Costa Rica for 14 years where she taught English to adults and trained and supervised adult education teachers. Christine holds a doctorate degree from Arizona State University in Educational Leadership and Supervision, with a focus on Latino parent involvement in public schools.
