Frances Coronel is the Technology Director and an advisor for Techqueria. She previously operated as the Executive Director, where she supervised and managed the day-to-day operations. Techqueria is a 501c3 nonprofit that empowers Latinx professionals with the resources and support needed to thrive and become leaders in the tech industry. Under her leadership, Frances has helped grow Techqueria to become the largest global community of Latinx in tech with 15,000+ members and allies.
Ms. Coronel has worked in technology since 2015 and entered the nonprofit space in 2019 when she joined Techqueria’s leadership team. Ms. Coronel works with D&I leaders at tech companies across the US to create and promote opportunities for Latinx professionals to uplevel their careers. Overseeing a staff team of five, Ms. Coronel more than tripled the growth of Techqueria’s online community from 3,000 to 9,000+ members in less than two years and increased the funding from $65K in 2019 to nearly $250K in 2020.
Frances is a sought out speaker on D&I in tech and has given over 70 talks since 2015 with engagements at Stanford, Asana, Unidos US, Smash Academy, and Netflix. She has been featured in over 20 publications for her work with Techqueria, including the San Francisco Business Times, ABC7 News, and Protocol. In 2019, she was awarded Sentry’s first-ever Open Source Grant for her work on Techqueria’s website, and in 2021 she was awarded The Connector Award by Commsor for being a “community builder that brings people together.”
Outside of Techqueria, Frances serves on Coro Northern California’s Board of Directors, Code Nation’s Bay Area Leadership Council, and the Latino Community Foundation’s Giving Circle for Latinos in Tech. Ms. Coronel is a first-generation Peruvian-American who earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Cornell Tech and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Hampton University.
