Sara Koenig is senior manager of communications, leading efforts to provide communications and marketing support to the Institute’s 30+ programs.
She has deep experience developing and executing communications strategies for nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and abroad.
Prior to joining the Aspen Institute, Sara served as a senior strategist at West End Strategy Team, where she designed communications plans and generated media coverage for advocacy organizations focused on workers’ rights; reproductive health, rights and justice; national security; interfaith activism; and the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.
Previously, as the associate communications and marketing director of the Worker’s Circle, the century-old Jewish social justice nonprofit, she oversaw the organization’s rebranding and spearheaded digital campaigns that mobilized new members and supporters.
Earlier in her career, Sara worked in Kosovo as a communications consultant with the NGO Mother Teresa Society, delivering humanitarian aid, producing fundraiser events and forging partnerships with the private sector.
Sara received a B.A. in communications and sociology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She holds an M.A. in international affairs with a concentration in governance and rights from The New School. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
