A large body of practice and data suggests that college/career navigation assistance programs are drivers of student retention, completion of training programs, and employment advancement for nontraditional students. To aggregate resources and tools that are available on this topic, the Workforce Strategies Initiative developed an annotated bibliography that contains links to 28 different resources and guides for college/career navigators. This guide, released in November 2014, is intended to help current navigators, managers or supervisors of navigators, or those considering a college/career navigator career and also provides insight into ways that various segments of a community college can coordinate to better support students.

This annotated bibliography was initially designed as a resource for Northern Virginia Community College’s Credentials to Careers Consortium, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s TAACCCT Grant Program.
