In 1947, two educators from the University of Chicago, Robert Maynard Hutchins, president of the university, and Professor Mortimer J. Adler, established the Great Books Foundation to bring together passionate readers to meet and talk about enduring issues and ideas. Three years later, these gentlemen joined Walter Paepcke to form the Aspen Institute. Today, the Great Books program remains integrally linked to the ideals of the Aspen Institute.
This five-week program offers participants the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the most significant books in the Western intellectual tradition through a weekly moderated dialogue.
Led by moderators Paul Andersen and Ann Mullins, the 2025 series will take place in person on five consecutive Wednesdays on January 29, February 5, February 12, February 19, and February 26. All sessions will take place in person in the Koch Building on the Institute’s Aspen Meadows campus.
Fee: $295, includes all sessions, light refreshments, and readings. Scholarships are available.
Registration will open in early November 2024. Theme and topics will be announced in December 2024. For the most up-to-date information on registration and our other programs, sign up for our e-newsletter here.
