On June 14, 2020, just days after she became the first woman ever to visit the deepest point of the global ocean, Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, former NASA astronaut and NOAA Administrator Dr. Kathryn Sullivan spoke with the Aspen High Seas Initiative’s Executive Director, Michael Conathan. During their transit from the waters of the Pacific back to port in Guam, Dr. Sullivan and expedition leader Victor Vescovo talked about what they experienced on their historic dive, the future and necessity of ocean exploration, and the value of expanding access to and understanding of our planet’s unique and life-giving ocean.
