The Emergence of an Impact Economy

In recent years, we have seen a surge of so-called social entrepreneurship as innovators attempt to build business models designed to generate profits and create social benefit. We also have witnessed a rise in impact investing as investors intentionally seek to create economic return and yield public good.

Some have described these convergent trends as the first signs of an Impact Economy.  How are these trends reshaping capital markets?  Does their ascendancy challenge basic assumptions about the role of the firm or the nature of fiduciary responsibility?  What are the implications for corporate executives and individual investors?
