Sweet Darkness, by David Whyte

Meditation

Our eyes are tired. We’ve seen more tragedy and fear in the past few months on a global scale larger than most of us can remember. This is new. This is scary. It feels like we’re heading out towards the dark unknown. In the darkness, writes Whyte, we can be sure we are not beyond love. But when our new reality plunges us into this sweet darkness, perhaps our horizons are expanded farther than we can see.

“Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet/ confinement of your aloneness/ to learn/ that anything or anyone/ that does not bring you alive/ is too small for you.” What have you learned in the sweet confinement of your aloneness? What is it that brings you alive? “You must learn one thing. The world was made to be free in.” What are you free in today?
