The Astronomer, by Kahlil Gibran

Meditation

Just as the sun rises and falls, the moon pulls the tides, and stars have guided us for eons, so too does the heart. This beautiful short story calls us to search for wisdom by embracing the darkness and allow ourselves to be guided internally. Take a moment and close your eyes. Feel your heartbeat like a series of shooting stars. Do you feel pulled in any direction? Are you grounded towards the earth or do you feel light and airy?

The Astronomer brings us to that simple and sometimes forgotten inner intuition as a guide. With a degree of chaos in the world, we often find ourselves looking around us for guidance. Looking for a voice of reason, for explanation, looking to be soothed through the panic. Perhaps, though, those suns and moons and stars that light up the world and guide us through life are already within you. The wisest one of our land looks within. If you were an astronomer, examining your suns and moons and stars, what would you see?
