The Silence of Waiting, by Rudolf Otto

Meditation

What does it mean to listen to the sound of silence? Without the noise of automobiles and airplanes we hear much more. Silence becomes loud, or rather our perceptions become finer. When it is quiet we hear more. Quiet is a time of waiting, and waiting is difficult. Rudolf Otto describes the inward concentration and detachment of waiting as a submergence. The submergence of what into what? What do you do to still yourself in waiting? What do you hear? What are you called to write as “the pencil of the unearthly writer?”
