Center’s Youth Board Member, Dana Lee Jetty speaks at the 2011 National Rural Assembly Gathering

June 30, 2011

Dana Lee Jetty, a member of the Center’s Board of Advisors and enrolled member of the Spirit Lake Tribe, ND presented at the National Rural Assembly 2011 Gathering in St. Paul, Minnesota on June 28, 2011.  Dana provided a Native youth perspective on the “Speaking Truth to Power” panel at the conference.

Dana’s five-minute presentation highlighted the one “truth” she wanted America to know about Native youth and rural communities – give Native youth a voice. Her presentation highlighted Native youth challenges, the Center’s work at addressing these issues, and most important, Dana shared her own story about the tragic loss of her younger sister Jami Rose Jetty and how Jami’s suicide empowered her to advocate for Native youth suicide prevention. Thank you Dana for representing the Center for Native American Youth and continuing to be a strong voice and inspiration for young Native Americans.
