And the Winner Is…Creativity in Education

February 25, 2013  • Institute Contributor

Though this year’s Oscars are over (gratefully, for some), the most salient conversation of the evening—the importance of creativity in education—will continue in Los Angeles on March 6. Following the great success of the inaugural convening of the Aspen Institute Arts Strategy Group in New York this past fall, Aspen Institute Arts Program Director Damian Woetzel will bring 20 artists, policymakers and arts administrators together for a series of roundtables discussions, working groups and presentations, all culminating in a public discussion and demonstration that evening at the Music Center (where the Academy Awards were held from 1969-1987, incidentally).

For what to expect, check out highlights from the initial event in October, where the theme of the Citizen Artist, personified by Harman-Eisner Artist-in-Residence Yo-Yo Ma, was first explored.

The group will continue the discussion of how artists can play a role in systemic change—from education to healthcare to diplomacy. If you are in LA, click here to see how you can attend the final event. To follow the effort on the Arts program’s blog, head here.
