Expeditionary Learning: A New Direction for Turnaround Success

January 19, 2011  • Education Innovation Forum and Expo

For more than 17 years, Expeditionary Learning (EL) has partnered with schools across the country, delivering a powerful model of whole school reform grounded in a compelling vision of student potential. EL schools both demonstrate high levels of performance on mandated tests and are places where inquiry and discovery are celebrated and where critical thinking, character and citizenship are as important as academics. EL schools are outperforming state and district averages on standardized tests, and, in our high schools, 100 percent college acceptance is the standard.

EL is the only national organization with the experience and capacity to achieve impact for students across a diverse network of national K-12 schools in urban, rural and suburban areas. EL is poised to contribute to national reform efforts by taking our proven model of engaging teaching and learning to scale.

As districts strive to meet the needs of every child, many are turning to a mixed portfolio approach, looking for partners to help them drive student improvement in all types of schools. EL now has the opportunity to leverage its proven model to improve student achievement at scale by partnering with districts that are adopting this approach. EL plans to partner with select districts to serve mixed portfolios of regular district schools, public charter schools and persistently low performing schools, as well as help districts develop pipelines of effective school leaders and teachers.
