When we focus on a miracle, what draws our attention? Here Seamus Heaney redirects our gaze from Jesus’ healing of a paralytic man, to the friends who, impeded by the crowd, scale the house and lower the man’s stretcher so that he can receive Jesus’ healing touch. Dedication. Determination. Resourcefulness. Consistency. Care. These are the miracles of those who have known him all along and carry him, against all odds, through discomfort and disappointment. There are those we carry. There are those who carry us. Celebrate the miracles.
