A Screening of STEP

The Aspen Institute’s Expanding Prosperity Impact Collaborative (EPIC), as part of the Finance Forward series, is excited to host an advance screening of the documentary STEP. The film is a stunning portrayal of a girls’ high school step team in inner-city Baltimore, revealing many of the serious struggles families in this country face in trying to support their children while also wrestling with financial instability, much of which is driven by income volatility. Aspen EPIC has been working with national and local experts across the country to identify a constellation of cross-sector solutions to help reduce income volatility and manage the most consequential impacts.

STEP provides a unique opportunity for all of us to better understand the day-to-day financial lives of working families and how the pervasive financial insecurity in this country creates serious barriers for any kind of mobility. We hope you will join us for a viewing of the film, followed by a moderated discussion on the impact of income volatility and financial insecurity on children, families, and their communities.
