The African Health Economics and Policy Association (AfHEA) Conference

MLI presented multiple abstracts at The African Health Economics and Policy Association (AfHEA) conference in Senegal. AfHEA provides a forum for peer learning and information sharing for professionals in health economies in Africa. The conference brought together Africa’s top health economists and health policy analysts to review current trends and promising programs and policies for moving Africa’s health systems toward universal coverage for health care.

MLI joined top African health economists to participate in a plenary session, present four oral presentations and two posters, on the technical programs of MLI:

-“The Role of Leadership and Country Ownership in Achieving Universal Health Coverage” plenary with Rosann Wisman, MLI Director, and Moussa Mbaye, Secretary General, Ministry of Health and Prevention, Senegal serving as panelists and Marty Makinen of MLI facilitating.

– “The Balanced Scorecard: A Tool for Developing the Health Sector Development Plan IV in Ethiopia” oral and poster presentation by Rahel Gizaw, MLI-Ethiopia Country Lead“

– “Is Rwanda replicable? Mali’s quest to learn from Rwanda’s health insurance success and adapt its approach in a national strategy to extend mutuelles de santé” oral presentation by Cheickna Touré, Union Technique de la Mutualité Mali.

“Overcoming Financial Obstacles to Reproductive Health Care: Experiences with Free Care and Health Insurance,” oral presentation by Allison Gamble Kelley, MLI-Mali Country Lead and health economist

– “Situational Analysis on the Reform of the Criteria for Allocating Resources in the Health Sector in Senegal.” oral presentation by Dr. Ndack Ly MLI-Senegal Country Lead

– “Approaches to Development Partner Coordination in Five MLI Countries” poster presentation by Rosann Wisman, MLI Director

After AfHEA, the Harmonization for Health in Africa (HHA)’s Community of Practice (CoP) on Performance-based Financing met. The delegation from Senegal presented their current work and approach.
