SOF Bay Area Discussion Reception: The Blockchain and the New Architecture of Trust

Join Kevin Werbach, professor of Legal Studies and Business Ethics at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, in conversation with Charlie Firestone, executive director of the Aspen Institute Communications and Society Program, about how the blockchain can be trustworthy. The blockchain, built on open software and decentralized foundations that allow anyone to participate, seems like a threat to any form of regulation. Blockchain systems that ignore law and governance are likely to fail or to become outlaw technologies irrelevant to the mainstream economy and a tragic waste of potential. Werbach will discuss how blockchain can act as a legal technology that can shape behavior in new ways, and has the potential to create tremendous business and social value.
