Society of Fellows One Day Symposium: The Great American Songbook

This unique symposium, offered in collaboration with the Aspen Music Festival and School, will explore the nuances and ongoing impact of the Great American Songbook, as well as an in-depth exploration of the musicians who brought this music to life. Special focus will be paid to the Songbook’s origins; its synergy with jazz; and its resonance in contemporary culture.

Through analysis, lecture, discussion, multimedia presentation and readings, participants will enjoy extraordinary access to this seminal period in American music. The panel will include Peter Duchin, musician and band leader; Loren Schoenberg, Director, Harlem Jazz Museum; and Alan Fletcher, President and CEO, Aspen Music Festival and School. The Society of Fellows Opening Reception will be held in the evening, separate from the symposium.

This event is exclusively offered to Society of Fellows donors.

Donors to the Society of Fellows (SOF) form an integral part of the Aspen Institute community, and as such are invited to attend year-round events including SOF Symposia, Luncheons and Discussion Receptions. Fellows are frequently among the first to know about Aspen Institute events in Aspen CO, Washington DC, Wye MD, and New York NY.
