The Refinery on Portable Non-Employer Retirement Benefits

With 55 million American workers without access to traditional workplace retirement plans, and amid ongoing efforts at the state and federal level to expand workplace-based coverage, the opportunity now exists to envision and design the next-generation of products and institutions capable of providing an occupational safety net for the 21st century. Envisioned as the link between research ideas and testable solutions, the Refinery will prototype a new kind of ideation process that will help catalyze action on policy, product, and institutional innovations that will greatly enhance vulnerable Americans’ financial security.

This is the second Refinery meeting on Portable Non-Employer Retirement Benefits. This private convening is focused on the role that payroll providers, payment platforms, as well as other services that serve the self-employed and small employers, can play in facilitating retirement savings by exploring potential business models, delivery strategies, and product features and ultimately by spurring partnerships and experimentation in retirement savings benefits.
